It is widely used in applications such as street lighting, parking lots, pathways, and exterior building lighting. This unit operates on 120 VAC (50/60 Hz) and uses a cadmium sulphide (CDs) photocell sensor combined with a mechanical bimetal switch to detect light changes and switch connected fixtures ON at dusk and OFF at dawn. This includes a built-in time delay (30–90 seconds) that prevents nuisance switching caused by temporary light sources like headlights or lightning, ensuring stable performance.
